Translating research discoveries to impact

Enabling UBC researchers to protect and commercialize their high-potential discoveries.

UBC’s inventions and licensing team helps UBC researchers to protect and advance high-potential discoveries. Our team of experts hold a wealth of knowledge and will work with you to assess the commercial potential of your invention; develop and enact a suitable patenting strategy; determine whether the invention could be the basis of a spinoff company; market to and negotiate with potential licensees; and ensure all agreements are in place to support the transition from invention to impact.

Our inventions and licensing team is comprised of dedicated professionals, undertaking a rigorous assessment of approximately 150 technology disclosures annually, aiming to maximize their economic and societal impact. The team's achievements are noteworthy, including the filing of over 300 patents annually, managing a substantial portfolio of 2,850 patents and executing around 85 technology licenses each year.
