Innovation UBC is actively engaged in the creation and development of spin-off companies that are based on UBC research discoveries.
UBC spinoffs are companies formed to commercialize UBC discoveries, fund research at UBC in order to develop technology that will be licensed by the company, or provide a service which was originally offered through an existing UBC department or unit. As of March 31, 2024, UBC research has been instrumental in creating 260 spin-off companies. Approximately 150 of those companies are understood to be currently active, or to have merged or been acquired.
