In this Q&A, we're shining a light on the invaluable contributions of the Work Learn students at Innovation UBC. UBC's Work Learn Program supports and subsidizes meaningful work experiences on and off campus, offering current UBC Vancouver students the opportunity to develop their professional skills in a real work environment.
We're incredibly fortunate to work with students who bring fresh perspectives and dynamic energy to our initiatives. In this feature, we're pleased to introduce Audrey Rosyadi (she/her), who has been serving as our Digital Marketing Assistant since May 2025 and is graduating this spring.

Can you describe your role and responsibilities during your Work Learn position with Innovation UBC?
As a Digital Marketing Assistant at Innovation UBC, I supported the marketing team in executing our digital strategy across multiple channels. My responsibilities included managing social media accounts, creating copy for various platforms, maintaining and updating our website, and keeping track of our ventures’ accomplishments. I also drafted multiple stories highlighting UBC's research impacts, helping communicate the value of the university's innovations to a broader audience. Beyond digital marketing, I also help the team with event coordination and support.
Reflecting on your time with Innovation UBC, what was a key learning moment or insight you gained?
One of the key insights I gained during my time at Innovation UBC is the importance of framing a story in a way that resonates with the intended audience. Working within the research and innovation ecosystem, I learned that translating complex research impacts into accessible, engaging content is essential for reaching a broader audience. Using clear and approachable language allows more people to understand and connect with the incredible work being done, making innovation feel relevant and exciting to everyone.
Of the projects or experiences you were part of, which one stands out as the most meaningful or your favorite, and why?
While I found every project I worked on was meaningful in its own way, the one that stands out most for me is our Meet the Team series, which launched when I joined last summer. This project pushed me to grow in different ways, giving me hands-on experience in video production, interviewing, and coordination. Beyond the skills I gained, what made it especially rewarding was how it spotlighted the incredible people behind Innovation UBC! This is also a good reminder for me on how important storytelling is, being able to create a genuine connection between people and the work that they care about.
Based on your experiences, what advice would you offer to future Work Learn students to make the most out of their time with Innovation UBC?
Working at Innovation UBC, you will have the opportunity to connect with so many incredible people, from researchers and entrepreneurs to other students and the passionate team behind it all. Those relationships are just as valuable as the work itself, so don't be afraid to introduce yourself, ask questions, or reach out when you need help. Aside from that, I think being transparent is really important, especially if you're unsure about something or need guidance. The team is there to support you! Some of my best learning moments came from having honest conversations with the people around me. Most importantly, come in with curiosity and a willingness to grow. You will have so many opportunities to learn and expand your skills, so make the most of every one of them.
