Building a start-up from scratch is incredibly difficult, especially while managing the demands of university life. On May 26, 2026, HATCH was exceptionally proud to celebrate the graduation of six ventures.
HATCH Venture Builder is an accelerator for established, UBC research-based spin-off companies. Over up to 18 months, venture teams receive dedicated mentorship from Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, access to office and makerspace facilities, and programming designed to help them reach transformative commercial milestones, including closing investment rounds, securing major partnerships, and achieving repeatable sales.

Broadsight Technology
UBC Affiliation: VP External Relations
Broadsight Technology transforms splintered messaging across shared drives, emails, and spreadsheets into a unified workspace. Under CEO Steve Lowry, the team focused their scope, doubled their Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR), and built an internal data chatbot. They also secured major clients like BC Ferries, Colliers, health authorities, and large universities.

Minpraxis Solutions optimizes how the mining industry designs, builds, and operates assets. Led by CEO Stefan Nadolski, the team achieved real commercial revenue with strategic customers. They leave HATCH with a strong balance sheet and a growing pipeline.

Mitra Biotechnologies
UBC Affiliation: Faculty of Applied Science
Mitra Biotechnologies develops nanomaterial-integrated diagnostic platforms for real-time, small-sample, point-of-care testing. Founder Neil Mitra balanced this complex health-tech development with earning his biomedical engineering degree. He advanced theoretical equations into laboratory demonstrations, raised a funding round, and earned prestigious accolades including a Z Fellowship, a Presidential Scholarship, and membership in SoftBank Group’s Masason Foundation.

Mosa
UBC Affiliation: Sauder School of Business
Mosa reduces waste by upcycling discarded glass bottles into unique home decor. The start-up more than doubled its sales, secured a corporate supplier arrangement with Shopify, and landed a massive FIFA contract for custom glassware. Additionally, CEO Prishita Agarwal was honoured with a prestigious 30 Under 30 award.

Sonus Microsystems
UBC Affiliation: Faculty of Applied Science
Sonus Microsystems creates customizable ultrasound transducers using polymers. Since incorporating in 2018, they built their polyCMUT technology into a functional array platform for a wearable cardiac ultrasound patch. They are now entering clinical testing for autonomous imaging with Providence Health Care and Kinetic Medicine.

Viridis Research
UBC Affiliation: Faculty of Applied Science
Viridis Research empowers communities to protect water sources globally. Over the last two years, they completed paid trials with major textile firms and secured a major agreement to clean manufacturing wastewater contaminated by colour dyes. They also placed in the top five at the MistyWest International HARD Tech Awards.
