Emerging Media

Our Marketplace booth will feature Virtual Kabuki: Lessons from the Digital Dojo and showcase projects from UBC's Emerging Media Lab. The Virtual Kabuki is a collaboration between UBC's Kyle Stooshnov and Aaron Hilton of Steampunk Digital, which transforms motioned-captured Kabuki dance into virtual and augmented reality.

An innovative microwave enhanced advanced oxidation process (MW-AOP) is a groundbreaking solids destruction technology that would change the way waste organic slurries are treated and handled.

MultiConVis: a visual text analytics system for exploring a collection of online conversations
MultiConVis helps users explore and analyze a large amount of conversational data by providing a user interface that shows hierarchical topic structures and the general sentiment about particular topics over a selectable timeframe.

Calmer: A novel Approach for Treating Infant Pain
"Calmer” is a robotic platform used inside an incubator that simulates skin-to-skin contact for reducing pain/stress in babies who may be too medically fragile to be held by their mothers.

Profiling software that transforms simple 2D concept sketches into 3D models and allows clothing designers to effortlessly modify designs and patterns.

Converting Solar Electricity to Renewable Carbon Fuels
The research group is developing a low-temperature electrolyzer that converts waste carbon dioxide into commodity fuels and chemicals. This technology serves as a platform for the seasonal storage of abundant clean electricity. The team is working on improving every electrolyzer component.
